As we nurse a primary hangover, here are some more Cook County results, if you’ve not seen them yet. (Scroll down for Cook County board results)
Republican Roger Keats soundly beat Chicago cop John Garrido for the County Board president nomination. Green Party candidate Tom Tresser ran unopposed.
Sheriff Tom Dart easily beat Sylvester Baker, and will face off against Republican Frederick Collins.
Joseph Berrios takes the Democratic nomination for assessor, defeated Robert Shaw and “Fightin’” Raymond Figueroa. He’ll run against Sharon Strobeck-Eckersall.
Clerk David Orr and Treasurer Maria Pappas ran unopposed.
Democrats nominees for Metropolitan Water Reclamation District commissioner are Barbara McGowan, Maria Spyropoulos and Michael Alvarez. Republicans Paul Chiadlikas and Jimmy Tillman got the nod, and Green Party candidates John Ailey, Nadine Bopp and Diana Horton took their party’s nomination.
Cook County Board of Commissioners
1st District Commissioner Earlean Collins retained her seat, despite concerns on her availability to constituents and her support of the sales tax. She will face Ronald Lawless (G).
2nd District Commissioner Robert Steele had no problem winning his seat and will face Michael Smith (G).
3rd District Commissioner Jerry Butler won a commanding victory and has no challenger in the fall.
The 4th District race between Commissioner William Beavers and former state budget director Elgie Sims is a toss-up, so far. The Green Party’s Joseph Barton won.
5th District Commissioner Deborah Sims easily won over challenger Sheila Chalmers-Currin. Republican Miriam Shabo had about 100 more votes than her opponent James Thigpen.
In the 6th District, Commissioner Joan Patricia Murphy held off her opponents, and will face Sandra Czyznikiewicz.
In the 7th District, challenger Jesus “Chuy” Garcia, a former alderman and state senator, defeated incumbent Joseph Mario Moreno, one of President Todd Stroger’s staunchest allies. Paloma Andrade got the Green Party nod.
8th District Commissioner Edwin Reyes appears to have won, holding off Xavier Nogueras and Ariel Rosa. There are no challengers from other parties.
9th District Commissioner Peter Silvestri ran unopposed, as did 10th District Commissioner Bridget Gainer, 11th District Commissioner John Daley and 15th District Commissioner Timothy Schneider.
Brock Merck won the Green Party’s nomination in the 9th Districct, while Cary Capparelli got the Dems’. Carl Segvich will run for Republicans in the 11th District. Jim Dasakis will run against Schneider for the Dems.
We reported earlier on state Rep. John Fritchey’s commanding win over former alderman Ted Matlak. Fritchey will run unopposed in the fall.
13th District Commissioner Larry Suffredin won easily, and will face Linda Thompson LaFianza (R) and George Milkowski (G).
In the 14th District, Gregg Goslin won with relative ease. He’ll face Jennifer Jenkins (D) in the fall.
Tony Peraica outlasted Brian Sloan in the 16th District. He’ll run against Jefferey Toboloski (D) and a Green Party nominee, Alejandro Reyes.
Liz Gorman won the 17th District Republican nod over Mark Thompson in a race that featured more mud than Woodstock. She’ll face Democrat Patrick Maher and Matthew Ogean, Green Party candidate, who beat his opponent, Richard Dalka, 53 votes to 51.
