Cook County Board President Todd Stroger has hired a new deputy chief of staff.

Carla Oglesby, previously managing partner of CGC Communications, will replace Pam Munizzi, who recently retired from the post. At CGC, Oglesby had overseen media outreach in Stroger's unsuccessful bid for the Democratic nomination this year.

Oglesby "understands the initiatives and opportunities to which my administration is committed, and is dedicated to joining me in doing all we can to support policy and programs that help the people of Cook County," Stroger said in a statement today.

Oglesby will earn $116,135 and report to Chief of Staff Joe Fratto. She will have "significant oversight in terms of the day-to-day interaction and management with department heads and bureau chiefs," Stroger spokeswoman Chris Geovanis says.

Forest preserve to bear Hansen's name

A month after his death, county commissioners will rename a portion of the county's forest preserve after former Commissioner Carl Hansen.

Hansen died on Feb. 2, the day of the primary election. He was instrumental in saving 600 acres of the Poplar Creek Forest Preserve, near Hoffman Estates, from becoming a wasteland.

"Carl was an ardent opponent of that and was successful in keeping the landfill out of the Forest Preserve," said Commissioner Timothy Schneider, who defeated Hansen in 2006. He said Hansen called it one of his proudest moments.

The renaming measure, sponsored by Schneider, will kick out the preserve's old title: Shoe Factory Road Woods.
