It was the meeting that wasn’t.

Having received no word from Mayor Richard M. Daley on who he recommends to take over the vacant 1st and 29th Ward aldermanic spots, the City Council’s rules committee met briefly and adjourned today.

“Not one of the items is in a position to be discussed or passed,” said Alderman Richard Mell, the committee’s chairman.

Former 1st Ward Alderman Manny Flores resigned his position Jan. 15 to take a role in Gov. Pat Quinn’s administration. Former 29th Ward Alderman Isaac “Ike” Carothers resigned last month after being indicted for bribery.

The mayor has a 60-day window from the resignations to name a replacement. Flores’ replacement must be named by March 16.

The city expects to release the names of members of the public who applied for the jobs later this week.
