The Senate Ethics Committee today admonished Roland Burris for making "less than candid" statements when he was under questioning about how disgraced Gov. Rod Blagojevich came to appoint him to President Barack Obama's former Senate seat.
With the letter, which amounts to a slap on the wrist, the committee closes its investigation of Burris.
Burris has already said he's not running for re-election, so the admonishment doesn't have much resonance on the Illinois political scene.
A much bigger question: Will Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. be cleared of similar allegations?
The decision on that issue will play into whether Jackson's a viable candidate for a grander position.
