Metropolitan Water Reclamation District President Terrence O’Brien was the first candidate to light up the airwaves with a campaign advertisement in the race for Cook County Board President, unveiling a $500,000 media buy Monday.
But Alderman Toni Preckwinkle is close on his heels.
Preckwinkle wrapped up filming Tuesday, says campaign manager Scott Cisek, and has purchased $425,000 of air time.
“I think the fundamental message is that Toni is an independent progressive reformer, and she’s the one who can clean up Cook County, and she’s really the only person in the race who can say those things,” Cisek says.
There’s no word on yet on how much – or if any – airtime the campaigns of Clerk of Court Dorothy Brown and President Todd Stroger will buy.
Cisek says veteran political ad guy Ken Snyder filmed enough footage for three advertisements.
