Cook County Board president Todd Stroger's struggling reelection campaign received a $101,000 cash infusion this week from former state Senate president Emil Jones.
The whopping donation comes after Stroger's office in August hired Jones' daughter into an $84,000 a year, high-level job.
Jones has been a longtime backer of Stroger. His stepson's company, Synch Solutions, has been criticized for botching a contract that cost the county nearly $800,000.
In a state that's infamous for scandals involving jobs and campaign donations, this raises some interesting questions for Stroger and Jones.
We'll be reaching out to them today to ask whether the job and the contribution are connected.
Jones' donation came at a key time for Stroger, whose campaign had raised just $14,000 in 2010.
Jones' contribution puts Stroger in second place in 2010 fundraising to date, behind Alderman Toni Preckwinkle.
