Carla Oglesby, deputy chief of staff to County Board Todd President, is being pressured to resign in the wake of the latest scandal to hit Stroger's office, according to a report by Fox Chicago News.
The county's ethics department and inspector general are now investigating allegations that Oglesby's public relations firm, CGC Communications, received a payment of $24,975 from the county just days after she was hired.
Contracts of $25,000 or more must be approved by the County Board.
The Fox report also says Oglesby personally approved the payment to her firm, which was working with the county's homeland security department.
The flap has commissioners fuming, and several Democrats plan to introduce legislation that would require more oversight of hiring and spending.
"It's embarrassing. It's embarrassing for this county again and embarrassing for him," Commissioner John Daley told the Sun-Times.
