Bill would sever link between Great Lakes, Mississippi River

A bipartisan group of Michigan lawmakers is pushing a bill that would fight Asian carp infiltration of Lake Michigan by closing the waterways linking the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River.

The group is planning an announcement on the legislation later this afternoon, but it presumably involves closing the Chicago Ship and Sanitary Canal

Rather than insert a cynical joke about Detroit here, I'll just note that any bill that has the support of D's and R's in Washington these days is something of a miracle.

Should be interesting to watch the battle between environmentalists and barge owners and others whose business depends on shipping.
