City sets timetable for $212 million in new downtown CTA stations

Construction will begin by April 2013 on three new or totally rebuilt Chicago Transit Authority train stations downtown, officials announced with some pretty big smiles on Tuesday. Coming first will be rebuilding the Clark and Division Red Line stop.

Report: Overtime issues persist at CTA

Among all the public agencies in Illinois, only at the CTA can employees boost their pensions with overtime — a practice that has been in place since at least 1965, according to CTA officials. Unfortunately for taxpayers, the one agency that uses overtime to calculate pensions also has struggled to contain its overtime costs.

US giving CTA $20 million to complete repairs on Blue Line's O'Hare branch

The Chicago Transit Authority will get a $20 million federal grant to complete repairs of slow zones on the O'Hare branch of the Blue Line, officials announced Monday.

CTA board approves $1.24B budget for 2012

With scarcely any discussion, the CTA board on Tuesday approved a $1.24 billion budget for 2012 that presumes no fare hikes, service cuts or employee layoffs based on management achieving unprecedented work-rule concessions from labor unions. CTA President Forrest Claypool characterized the budget as “the responsible thing to do’’ to protect riders from a repeat of fare hikes in 2009 or service cuts last year.

City testing traffic tracker website

The Chicago Department of Transportation is building a new website that offers an array of traffic information about 300 miles of arterial streets citywide. The system uses GPS on CTA buses to map congestion along arterial streets.
