Daley taps state rep, businessman for aldermen

Mayor Richard M. Daley has picked a state representative and a partner in a graphic arts firm to fill the City Council’s two vacant seats.

State Rep. Deborah Graham is Daley’s choice for 29th Ward alderman, a position vacated when former Alderman Isaac “Ike” Carothers pleaded guilty to bribery in February. Graham is also the 29th Ward committeewoman. Read more...

Daley to address alderman appointments at press conference

Mayor Richard M. Daley is holding a press conference at 3 p.m. to discuss the City Council’s two vacant positions.

While it’s unclear what exactly he’ll be discussing, he has until tomorrow to name a replacement for former Alderman Manny Flores, who resigned his 1st Ward seat in January to take a position with Gov. Pat Quinn’s administration. Read more...

City Council video archive a 'big step' toward transparency

It’s rare that a top Chicago official calls out the city’s shortcomings, but if you ask City Clerk Miguel Del Valle, Chicago is far behind other municipalities in putting its dirty laundry out there for all to see.

Harsh words for Obama as aldermen talk immigration reform

Chicago alderman criticized the Obama administration today for dragging its feet on immigration reform.

Alderman Danny Solis (25th) introduced a resolution at today's City Council meeting solidifying the council's commitment to immigration reform, as Solis and others prepare to go to Washington for an immigration-rights march on March 21. Read more...

No decision yet on alderman replacements

It was the meeting that wasn’t.

Having received no word from Mayor Richard M. Daley on who he recommends to take over the vacant 1st and 29th Ward aldermanic spots, the City Council’s rules committee met briefly and adjourned today. Read more...
