Emanuel wants public’s ideas on keeping pols honest

Mayor Rahm Emanuel launched an interactive website to engage Chicagoans in the daunting task of erasing a $635.7 million budget shortfall. Now, he’s opening the same public dialogue on the issue of how to overhaul and strengthen Chicago’s ethics ordinance. The Ethics Reform Task Force charged with delivering on one of Emanuel’s key campaign promises will be soliciting ideas at www.CityofChicago.org/ethicstaskforce

Protest over Bronzeville school closings is called off

After a sit-in at City Hall didn't result in a meeting with the mayor, members of the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization called off their protest Monday over Bronzeville-area school closings, saying they're redirecting efforts and looking for support among federal and state legislators.

Uproar continues over plans for South Side schools

Two weeks after they first protested outside the mayor's office, members of the Kenwood Oakland Community Organization were back at City Hall on Monday demanding a meeting to pitch an alternative plan for reforming failing schools in their neighborhood. Protesters threaten a sit-in if a meeting with the mayor fails to materialize.
