In what shapes up as Forrest Claypool's first big test in his seven-month tenure at CTA's helm, the CTA on Friday announced it was removing all 40 of the new Series 5000 rail cars from their debut service on the Pink Line.

CTA board approves $1.24B budget for 2012

With scarcely any discussion, the CTA board on Tuesday approved a $1.24 billion budget for 2012 that presumes no fare hikes, service cuts or employee layoffs based on management achieving unprecedented work-rule concessions from labor unions. CTA President Forrest Claypool characterized the budget as “the responsible thing to do’’ to protect riders from a repeat of fare hikes in 2009 or service cuts last year.

Bus rapid transit speeds into fast lane with CTA board OK today

Construction on the CTA's first bus rapid transit (BRT) project will begin in spring of 2012 along Jeffery Street between 67th and 103rd streets after the agency's board on Wednesday gave it the go-ahead. The CTA board approved a joint agreement with the Chicago Department of transportation to work cooperatively on the project.

CTA won’t hike fares in 2012 — if union agrees to work changes

The CTA will not increase fares next year or cut services under a budget proposal outlined Wednesday by agency president Forrest Claypool. However, the proposal is contingent on unions agreeing to changes in work rules.
