Court: Gun advocates can fight Cook County weapons ban

The Illinois Supreme Court gave new life Thursday to a challenge to Cook County’s ban on assault weapons, overturning lower-court rulings and sending the case back to a judge to hear testimony on whether assault weapons have the same Second Amendment protection as handguns.

Court defers Cook County request for cameras in courts

The Illinois Supreme Court is deferring Cook County’s request to allow cameras in its courtrooms. Supreme Court spokesman Joseph Tybor says the delay comes while the court waits for more results from pilot programs already under way elsewhere in Illinois.

Theis prevails in Dem primary for Supreme Court

Chicago Democrat Mary Jane Theis Tuesday garnered 189,692 votes, or more than 50 percent, prevailing in the 1st District Democratic primary for the Illinois Supreme Court, according to the Board of Elections and Cook County Clerk websites.
