Citing concerns over the potential release of dangerous felons who are in the country illegally, Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart has been pushing for changes to a controversial county ordinance that requires law enforcement to ignore federal requests to hold illegal immigrants who are arrested for other crimes.

For the third time since the board voted to repeal half of the penny-on-the-dollar tax hike in December, commissioners will today debate cutting the remaining tax. Previous attempts by Commissioner Tony Peraica have failed.

We've not seen the worst of Chicago's winter yet, and Cook County Commissioner Forrest Claypool thinks Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan is paying attention to the Weather Channel.
At a press conference this morning, Claypool said voters are being "manipulated" by politicians who set the primary election date for Feb. 2.
"It is the bitterest, coldest, iciest day of the year to discourage people from voting," he said, calling Illinois' voting system "rigged." The election that matters most, he said, happens in the primary season, not November. Read more...
