Democratic U.S. Senate candidate David Hoffman accused rival Alexi Giannoulias yesterday of failing to accept responsibility for decisions "made under his watch" at the beleaguered Broadway Bank.
This week, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation imposed new restrictions on the Chicago bank in an attempt to right its course and save it from collapse.
Giannoulias responded to the consent order by saying he has not been at the bank, where he was formerly a senior vice president, for four years, and that its problems stem from broader economic trends. Read more...

Update | 3:15 p.m. The consent order confirms that, as part of the agreement, Broadway Bank will need to hire a third party, approved by the FDIC, to study each senior executive at the bank.
The agent will "develop a written assessment and analysis of the bank's senior executive officers for the purpose of providing qualified management for the bank." Read more...
Hoffman calls on Giannoulias to disclose campaign funders
Update: Campaign staffers with Illinois Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias have e-mailed me with a list of his itemized fourth-quarter contributions. The campaign posted the list on his Web site today, according to an e-mail from spokeswoman Kati Phillips.
Now, she and Campaign Manager Tom Bowen are turning the tables on Hoffman, pressing him to release a list of "generous donors" to his campaign who matched contributions yesterday and today. Read more...
