Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said he and his counterparts in 16 other states want to demand quicker federal action on preventing invasive species such as Asian carp from migrating between the Great Lakes and Mississippi River watersheds.
A bipartisan group of Michigan lawmakers is pushing a bill that would fight Asian carp infiltration of Lake Michigan by closing the waterways linking the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River.
The group is planning an announcement on the legislation later this afternoon, but it presumably involves closing the Chicago Ship and Sanitary Canal.
