A former Republican candidate for Cook County board president is setting his sights on the city.
John Garrido, a Chicago policeman who lost to Roger Keats in the Republican primary, announced Saturday he would run for 45th Ward alderman.
"As a long time ward resident, homeowner and veteran Chicago Police Lieutenant, I’ve regularly seen the negative impact self-serving politicians have on our community," Garrido said on his website. State Sen. Bill Brady, leading a down-to-the-wire fight for the GOP gubernatorial nomination, today tried to emphasize his appeal to Illinois voters after an event with two of the nation's most centrist Republican legislators.
"Illinois is a center-right state," Brady said after a Republican fundraiser at the Union League Club this afternoon. "I am a center-right candidate."

Campaign disclosures filed through yesterday also reveal that former Attorney General Jim Ryan, who led a December poll by the Chicago Tribune and WGN, lagged all but one Republican gubernatorial candidate, Dan Proft, in fund raising from July through the end of the year. Read more...

For the reporting period (July 1, 2009 to Dec. 31, 2009) Garrido raised $26,439, while Keats’ campaign brought in $18,624. Read more...
