Giannoulias leads Kirk in poll

Democrats will start out with an advantage in the general election if Alexi Giannoulias is the party's nominee for Barack Obama's old Senate seat, according to a new survey from Public Policy Polling.

Giannoulias leads Republican U.S. Rep. Mark Kirk by eight percentage points, 42-34, while Kirk leads former Chicago Inspector General David Hoffman 37-36 and Chicago Urban League President Cheryle Jackson 38-36. Read more...

Jackson calls on Giannoulias to drop U.S. Senate bid

Democratic U.S. Senate contender Cheryle Jackson is calling on rival candidate Alexi Giannoulias to halt his campaign in light of a consent decree between federal regulators and his family's bank. 

Giannoulias, currently serving as state treasurer, was formerly a vice president at the struggling bank. His role there has been a growing focus in the Democratic Senate race, with former city Inspector General David Hoffman, another Giannoulias rival, questioning Broadway's finances at every turn.
