Did an endorsement grease the skids for a county employee?

Questions regarding the hiring practices of Todd Stroger’s administration continue to pop up.

Today, Fox News Chicago reports that the grandson of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan was hired to work as a business manager in the county’s Facilities Management department Oct. 26, a few days after his father, Leonard Muhammad, endorsed Stroger. Muhammad’s 26-year-old son, also named Leonard Muhammad, earns $63,000 a year. Read more...

County candidates begin campaigns with flurry of challenges

Yesterday was the final day for candidates running for office in Cook County to challenge opponents’ petitions or withdraw from the race.

The biggest news, of course, was U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, who backed out of the race for Todd Stroger's job, citing the need for party unity. Then a flurry of high-profile challenges emerged, most notably with Clerk of Courts Dorothy Brown challenging the petitions of County Board President Todd Stroger. Read more...
