Stroger ally pledges more racial campaign material

A controversial supporter of Cook County Board President Todd Stroger says voters can expect more tactics similar to a leaflet containing racist language disparaging Stroger’s opponents.

Wallace “Gator” Bradley, a reformed gang member-turned-community activist, is a vocal member of Soldiers for Stroger, an organization that has supported the Stroger family for years. Read more...

Preckwinkle's sales tax message evolving

In her bid for the Democrat's nomination to run for Cook County board president, Alderman Toni Preckwinkle has consistently backed the idea of rolling back the county’s sales tax to eliminate the entire penny-on-the-dollar increase.

When the campaign started heating up in the fall, she said she would support a phased reduction of the sales tax, which she calls regressive and harmful to underprivileged residents. Read more...

Daley says he won't endorse anyone in primaries

Mayor Richard M. Daley announced today he wouldn’t lend his endorsement to any candidates running in the Feb. 2 primary. Sorry, Pat Quinn. Sorry, Todd Stroger.

Environmental group backs Preckwinkle with endorsement

The Illinois chapter of the Sierra Club yesterday endorsed Alderman Toni Preckwinkle's bid to become Cook County Board president, saying she'll keep the county's forest preserves clean.

"Toni Preckwinkle knows that our Cook County Forest Preserves are a precious resource for future generations, and she won't play politics with our preserves," said Barbara Hill, Political Chair of the Sierra Club, Illinois Chapter.  "We are very fortunate that leaders from previous generations set aside our beautiful forest preserves, and Toni Preckwinkle is just such a visionary leader for the 21st century."   Read more...
