New health system guidelines will keep under-18 visitors out

The H1N1 virus is prompting the Cook County Health and Hospitals System to create new guidelines for visitors to Stroger, Provident and Oak Forest hospitals, allowing only those over the age of 18 to visit patients.

Starting today, staff members will monitor all visitors, and prevent those with fevers or sore throats from visiting the hospitals. CCHHS spokesman Lucio Guerrero said the new guidelines will last through flu season, or longer if necessary. Guerrero says the over-18 requirement is because most teens are out of school by that age, and the H1N1 virus circulates heavily in schools. Read more...
