Stroger cousin reappears on county payroll

The Tribune is reporting that Donna Dunnings, the former CFO who was forced out last year, is back on the county payroll. She's been hired to head the assessor's Cook County Stimulus and Revitalization Project.

Dunnings, cousin of County Board President Todd Stroger, will make $79,000 a year.

Eric Herman, spokesman for Assessor James Houlihan, says Dunnings is a good fit, and Houlihan is not concerned about her past problems, which included bailing felonious former county employee Tony Cole out of jail multiple times. Read more...

Cook Assessor Houlihan not intent on quiet exit

Cook County Assessor James Houlihan isn't going quietly into retirement.

In a press conference yesterday, Houlihan said Joseph Berrios, the board of review commissioner running for assessor, is intentionally holding up property tax assessments to better position himself in the November election.

Daley taps state rep, businessman for aldermen

Mayor Richard M. Daley has picked a state representative and a partner in a graphic arts firm to fill the City Council’s two vacant seats.

State Rep. Deborah Graham is Daley’s choice for 29th Ward alderman, a position vacated when former Alderman Isaac “Ike” Carothers pleaded guilty to bribery in February. Graham is also the 29th Ward committeewoman.

Businessman Proco “Joe” Moreno, a partner in a suburban graphic arts company, was picked to replace Manny Flores, who gave up his 1st Ward seat in January to take a position with Gov. Pat Quinn’s administration. Read more...
